I have loved art my whole life. It was my favorite class in Junior and Senior High School, but sadly I didn't pursue it in college (starving artists really are a thing!) Instead, I earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University, raised two kids and helped my husband start and run his business, Iris Technologies. But after years of volunteering at the kid's schools and trying to still be creative with painting, decorating my home and landscaping my yard, I decided to take over my kid's playroom in the basement and turn it into my art studio. Presto, Iris Creations was born!
COLOR has always played a large role in my life. The deeper and richer the better! Additionally, I have always been drawn to more abstract art with simple, flowing lines. So, I decided to combine these two aspects in the medium of glass, with its bright colors and sleek, smooth surface. When fusing glass together, I layer different shapes, colors and textures of glass, then heat it in my kilns to temperatures in excess of 1450°F, "fusing" the layers together. The resulting fused glass pieces are my own modern and often abstract designs.
I am now opening up my home studio and branching out into teaching. Artists can enroll in my classes, use my workshop space to create their own artwork or fire their projects in either of my two kilns. Fusing supplies and system 90 glass are also available to clients.
